<noindex>Fly rugs</noindex> are worn when the horse is confined to the stable. They’re thinner than turnout rugs allowing more freedom of movement. Mostly used at night, they protect the horse from the cold when the temperature drops and the horse is standing still so it’s harder for him to stay warm. They also protect from biting insects, dirt and dust. If a horse is stabled during the day, he’ll need a lighter rug, or possibly no rug at all.

Some horse owners rarely use a stable rug. They prefer their horse to grow a winter coat for nature’s protection. But an older horse or a horse that’s clipped will need a blanket if it’s cold. When deciding to use, or not use a stable rug, consider the horses age, coat type and health, the temperature inside the stable, and it’s exposure to wind.

A horse that is cold stands rigid with his tail down. On very cold nights, you may want to layer blankets. While he’s wearing a blanket, feel the skin under the rug to see if he’s perspiring. If he is, he’s too hot. Remove the blanket or swap to a lighter weight blanket.

Blankets need to fit properly to be comfortable for the horse and provide the intended protection. Measure along the side from neck to tail. Choose a blanket closest in size to your measurements. They’re sold by length in inches using three inch increments. Nowadays, all rugs are designed to break if the horse gets caught or tangled. Better a torn blanket than an injured horse.

If the blanket fits correctly it will protect the horse neck to tail and and completely cover the belly. It should be tight enough not to slip, but roomy enough for comfort. Your hand should fit between horse and blanket and fasteners. Most have three clasps at neck, chest, and tail. The best test is just to observe your animal to be sure he’s comfortable.

Fly rugs come in a variety of colors, sizes, materials and weights. They’re made of synthetic fabric that is quilted or padded, Most modern day fabrics are breathable so as not to hold moisture when the horse perspires. Fleece rugs can be used as lightweight stable blankets or as an under blanket on cold nights.

Insulation is measured by weight in grams. Lightweight blankets weigh under 150 grams, and are used during chilly weather, usually in the spring and fall. Medium weight blankets weigh 150 to 300 grams and are most used for horses with short coats or ones that have been clipped recently. Heavyweights, used during extreme cold, should weigh 300 to 450 grams. Some heavyweight blankets are designed with a neck cover to protect from the ears back.

Fly rugs need to be washed and changed regularly. A dirty rug will irritate the skin, a wet one chills the horse. It’s a good idea to have extra blankets available to swap out as they become dirty or wet. Don’t share blankets between horses. This can spread skin infections and bugs. Check condition to be sure blankets are free of rips and that there are no broken buckles. When not it use your blankets should be hung to dry in a well ventilated area to prevent rotting and molding. When completely dry fold and store in a dry area.

Every owner of a horse knows the importance great <noindex>horse care</noindex>. Horses that are properly taken care of are much happier, and healthier. Horse upkeep is pretty basic. There are only a few important things that need to be done right away.

The first, and most important thing to think about is veterinary care. Horses have special vets. Stables keep a list of trusted vets that are available to them. It is a good idea to get the name of a vet so that one can be called in case of emergency.

Owner that wish to keep their horses on their property have a little bit more of a responsibility. They are in charge of making sure that everything necessary is done to keep their horse companion comfortable, and healthy. They have to get a vet to them every year, and arrange for specialists when necessary to take care of other needs.

Owners can do some simple things to care for their friends. Grooming and feeding are two basic things they can do. Grooming keeps their coat free of dead fur, and keeps their mane from getting tangled. Of course, feeding keeps their strength up.

If the boarding stable does not offer it, the stable the horse is staying in needs to be cleaned out. Horses like clean hay to lay on. It should be done on a regular basis. Commonly, it should be done once or twice a week.

Dental hygiene and hoof care are two other very important things that need to be looked at regularly. Teeth should be checked for infections regularly. Hoof care is a bit easier to deal with. Horse shoes either need to be replaced or cleaned regularly. Dirt should be picked from the barefoot horse’s hoof once a week or more. If there is a great bond between the horse and it’s human companion, sometimes, the owner can do this.

Perhaps the most important aspect of horse care is spending time with the horse. They will not be able to learn their owner if he or she does not take out the time to bond with their new friend. This is especially true if the horse is just coming into their possession. An easy method to bond with a new horse friend is to take it out for walks and runs. Do this once a day to build up a bond of trust between each other.

During good weather, horses enjoy the open fields and green grass, but the rest of the time may be spent in a barn. Even though they are large, robust creatures, many have health problems with their hooves and legs. Traditional hard floor surfaces in the barn may not be ideal for these animals. Many farmers today put down horse stall flooring mats made of yielding materials, such as rubber.

The overall fitness of equine legs is directly affected by the amount of time spent standing on unyielding, hard surfaces. The yielding mat materials being used today help to prevent injury, and provide an environment conducive to quicker healing of existing problems. Unlike a traditional concrete floor, mats greatly reduce the possibility of sore points or stress problems.

During severe parts of the winter when many animals must spend longer periods indoors, these pads provide a naturally insulating barrier between straw and the colder floor. The animals stay warmer, and there is also less opportunity for slipping on wet concrete. After cleaning, sterilization with disinfectants is sometimes necessary, and these coverings also make that process a little easier.

Good drainage is very important. The mats are designed to let urine escape through the joints between individual sections, but buildup is still one of the biggest complaints. Unless the area underneath the mats is cleaned regularly, chemical breakdown will occur, releasing unhealthy, stinking ammonia. This eye-burning gas is very uncomfortable for the animals who live there, as well as the humans who must clean it up.

While these mats are measurably softer than bare floor, for optimum mental health most horses prefer the additional comfort and familiarity of organic bedding material. Without it, animals can easily become stressed if all they have is a bare mat. Putting plant material on top of the matting is a little more expensive, but well worth it from the animal’s point of view.

Additionally, this type of padding will only work well if installed over any rigid surface such as asphalt, wood or concrete. Laying the interlocking sections over softer surfaces will allow them to move slightly, and the result will be tears and uneven areas. They work best when used as a floor covering, not as the main floor. Those made of high-quality rubber last longest, followed by mats made of EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate).

For coverage of larger areas, heavier and thicker sections are recommended, rather than trying to link a large number of less sturdy sections together. Movement is restricted, and the material will last longer. Quality varies, because rubber is sometimes mixed with other materials in to make a less expensive product. In general, if the manufacturer’s guarantee is for five to ten years, that is high quality.

Not every farmer prefers this variety of horse <noindex>stall flooring</noindex>. Those who do, however, appreciate the fact that working with it is easy. The sections may be cut to fit, the same as floor tile, and they interlock easily. While the additional cost may initially be a consideration, effort and time will be saved. Not only will stable workers appreciate stall mats, but the animals will feel healthier and more comfortable.

Looking for a cost-effective <noindex>rubber mats</noindex> for your horses? These environmentally-friendly <noindex>horse mats</noindex> may be just what you need. These horse stall mats provide comfortable support for your horses, and help to relieve join pressure and can absorb shocks.

Tennessee Walking Horses of all riding styles look far more beautiful when they have a long, flowing mane and tail keeping time with their steps. This really accentuates the beauty of these magnificent horses. Your Tennessee Walking Horse can be gorgeous in no time at all if you follow these simple steps.

First, you need to untangle your walking horse’s mane and tail. Do not ever use a comb of any kind on your horse. A comb will prevent you from gaining a long, luxurious mane and tail more than any other grooming equipment you use on your horse. Use a stiff bristle human hair brush to detangle the mane and tail.

Start at the bottom of the mane or tail and work your way up to the top where the roots are. Detangle small sections at a time. I like to spray the hair heavily with a spray shine product such as show sheen or laser sheen to help me get it untangled. If it’s really badly tangled, I use Cowboy Magic for serious detangling. I still use the same method on all my Tennessee Walking Horses, de-tangling from the bottom, working my way up to the top as I make progress.

Once you have the entire mane and tail detangled, you need to wash it. Any regular shampoo will do fine. I like to follow up with a good conditioner. If you are using the homemade rapid growth formula that I use on all my Tennessee Walking Horses, this is when I apply it to the roots and rub it in real good with my fingers. (To get the recipe to make the rapid growth formula, see below.)

The next step I do with my walking horse’s tail is to braid it from the bottom of the tail to the bottom of the tail bone. Be sure to leave it loose around the bottom of the tail bone so it doesn’t irritate your horse. I seal the very bottom of the braid with black plastic electrician’s tape. Never use a rubber band, as this will break the hair.

As the tail grows longer, I fold the tail, doubling it up below the bone. Then I apply another piece of electrician’s tape to secure the fold below the bone. This is all you need to do to give most Tennessee Walking horses the best chance to grow their tail naturally.

To learn how to dramatically speed up the growth of your Tennessee Walking Horse’s mane and tail by up to 3″ to 4″ per month, you can go to <noindex>Secret Growth Recipe</noindex> and get the homemade rapid growth recipe and more mane and tail growth tips. Before you know it, all your friends will envy your Tennessee Walking Horse!

Reining horses will catch the judges attention and gain higher scores if they have long, flowing manes. Its a proven fact that reining horses with these long dramatic manes are much more crowd pleasing and add drama to the classic spin.

Get rid of your horse comb before you do anything else! A horse comb does more damage to the reining horse mane than anything else. You can keep your horse’s mane maintained and tangle free by using a stiff bristle human hair brush. Apply a spray gloss to your reining horse’s mane such as show sheen or laser sheen to help untangle your horse’s hair.

Once your reining horse mane is free of tangles, the next step is to wash your horse’s mane. You need to be sure that the mane on your reining horse is clean and free of sweet itch or any fungas or mites. Any good horse shampoo will do a fine job of cleaning your horses mane.

If your reining horse is rubbing out hair on his mane, chances are good that there’s a problem. You can treat the mane after washing it. Listerine mouth wash is great for sweet itch, fungas, mites and other problems. I use it to stop all things that will cause my reining horse to rub out hair on his mane. I put the Listerine in a spray bottle, and spray heavily along the roots of my horses mane or tail. Then I rub it in with my fingers and leave it in to do the job.

You can dramatically increase the speed of growth of your reining horses mane by applying a home made growth formula. With this special recipe, you can expect to gain up to 4″ of extra mane growth per month.

Ariat is known as the premiere manufacturer for riding footwear and boots. Beth Cross and Pam Parker started the company in the 1990s after being dissatisfied with existing English and Western riding footwear. They found them to be uncomfortable, unyielding, and stiff and at the end of the day there would a lot of fatigue for riders, so they looked into engineering a new way of making riding boots.

I’ve tried a lot of boots, and these are the best. I’ve had an opportunity to try a lot of Ariat’s latest lines and they are absolutely amazing. I will never go back to another brand again. There’s definitely no reason to even entertain the idea while these bad boys are on the market. I’m a pretty avid rider, on the courses about 2 times a week, so I put in a lot of hours and can tell you I hardly ever feel fatigue in my legs or feet.

If what you require is the cream of the crop, go for Ariat’s Professional selection. I prefer the Western styles rather than the English. The selection has some comfortable and attractive boots. The Quantum Brander is my first choice and has some fantastic features that just scream quality from the moment you see them. Aniline cowhide leather foot, a shaft that’s full-gran leather, and a full leather lining. This is heavenly! Add a ten-row stitch pattern and Duratread soles, and you’ll be floating on air.

Duratread is a registered trademark and is on the soles of these boots, and is the same material used on tractor tires and mining vehicles. You know you won’t be slipping and the sole will last for a long time. The leather welt is also made by Goodyear. This truly is the Cadillac of boots!

My wife’s a big fan of the Women’s Heritage Stockman. They look so good on her! These ones have what they call ATS technology. This feature is great for people who ride a lot. The thing is, whether they’re for riding or walking, they feel so comfortable. The stress in your feet, back, and lower legs is totally reduced giving a great feeling all day long.

This boot features a full leather lining, a saddle vamp, single stitch welt, a stitch pattern of 6 rows and a full grain leather foot and shaft. With the U-Toe profile this is one good looking boot!

My son wears the Cascade Kids boot. These look great no matter what activity you’re into, they’re just great boots. The Cascade range features 4LR technology which is the short name for Four Layer Rebound. With this there’s total quality comfort without a high price. The footbed features EVA cushioning and is lined with fabric that wicks to keep moisture at bay and a metatarsal support pad will keep feet supported all day long. The Duratread outsole is also included and makes for a very long lasting boot.

This style of boot also comes with the full grain leather and brushed synthetic lining. The booster bed and removable kiltie are also standard in this model. With these boots, your kids won’t be whining about sore feet which means more time for you on the ranch!

Many riders who have a gelding (or stallion) will have heard a disconcerting sound from the sheath area while riding, especially during trotting exercises. A quick look at the <noindex>horse riding online</noindex> discussions groups show that this is a common occurrence.

So what exactly is a sheath?

This is simply the skin layer that protects the horse’s penis; the length that the gelding or stallion has retracted his penis will determine how much air is trapped inside the sheath.

What Causes the Noise That You Hear?

The simplest answer would be “tension,” and that comes in a variety of forms.

Most sheath noises are caused by a stiff rear end. Imagine having to stand for hours or even days on end in the same stall as was common in years gone by, and you can understand why the hindquarters would become stiff.

Today’s horses are usually not kept tied in stalls for such long periods, but they may still experience a sense of either physical or mental restriction. You’re more likely to hear the sounds when the horse is feeling anxious, since this usually results in more air being trapped within the sheath.

How Do You Stop or Prevent the Noise?

Since this noise is brought on by anxiety, the first step is to find a way to relax your gelding.

He might be nervous because he’s sensing your tension at horse show, plus there’s extra anxiety for him due to being around horses he doesn’t know, as well as being in a strange and new environment.

Even your style of riding may lead to tension and anxiety. This is the most likely cause for those who are just beginning as horseback riders. Step back and look at your performance – are you using your aids too strongly or are you asking your mount to perform tasks he isn’t comfortable with yet?

The simplest way to relax a horse is to let him move forward freely with only light contact, making sure that the energy comes from his rear end. Also try moving him through circular patterns, like large loops or serpentines, with regular alterations in pace; make him switch between walk, trot and canter at a constant rate. Another great way to help relieve any stiffness along his back is to post to the trot, then sit out of the saddle during the canter until he has relaxed.

For more advanced riders, you can try asking your horse to lengthen and shorten the stride within each gait, using the driving leg aids to push (but not hurry) into a steady rein contact and always making sure he’s pushing with the hind quarters.

When the noise stops you’ll know your horse is supple and relaxed. Now you can join a horse riding online discussion and tell the other participants how you worked your horse through this issue!

Using of Jim Milton’s <noindex>horse riding online</noindex> website, you will be comfortable around horses and you will learn <noindex>horse riding online</noindex> in no time.

An equine supplement just isn’t like a ‘quick fix’ medication or stimulant giving an instant result. A proper diet program specially designed by a horse supplement lets the horse to join the ranks of the equine elites. The best quality horse supplements should be assigned consistently to a functioning equine for no less than about three weeks just before the event and during the event to guarantee peak state and to restore internal impairment (specially in muscular tissue) and for no less than three weeks after the event.

The good thing is selecting the ideal horse vitamin supplements counter this problem when provided routinely throughout its young life. Providing your horses over the suggested can result in negative side effects and would be damaging to the equine’s eating habits. Supplements must not be widely used as a substitute for a normal eating plan. Almost always don’t forget to conform with the instructions in the product.

Horse joint supplements are prepared from all natural formula only. Synthetic drugs with possible harmful negative effects, just like steroids, corticosteroids, barbiturates or amphetamine are not included in horse supplements. A horse supplement company’s main goal is to create and manufacture the ideal quality horse coat supplements and supplements for canines available at this time, which benefit the health and well being and maintained vigor of your animal.
Race horses being transported long distances also take advantage of electrolyte supplements as a consequence of lack of fluids and electrolyte losses. Nonetheless, it truly is important to adhere to dietary guidelines when providing them with food. Dietary horse vitamin products should never be utilized as an alternative for appropriate healthy eating plan. Proteins make-up – after other liquid – the most abundant constituent to the horse’s body. An adequate groundwork of proteins that often are often accessible are essential to fix muscular deterioration and accumulating or restoring the horse’s body tissues. Oats are typically considered as a favored food stuff for horses. About fifty percent of oats mixed up with common supplementations are recommended for thoroughbreds in full training with about forty percent of grass or hay. The remaining amount is derived from wheat, bran, chaff, or barley and top quality horse supplements at all stages of their lives. This is the important way to remove deficiencies. Awesome quality grass could contain almost 15% protein, but the content of bad quality grass or hay could possibly be below 2.5 percent. Issuing your horses exceeding the advisable can lead to unhealthy adverse effects and will be disadvantageous to the horse’s food regimen.

A regular consumption as advised is suitable and most effective. The amounts of all the normal formula in horse coat supplements, adapt with encouraged day-to-day allowances at highest potential levels. Offering your equines more than the recommended can result in awful adverse reactions and can be disadvantageous to the horse’s diet. Natural supplements must not be widely used as an alternative for a nourishing diet. Definitely be sure to stick to the product instructions.
